Gamlingay Writers - Our 2010 Writers Programme

Jan 5th - After ‘The End’...

Take your favourite book and then tell us how it continues! Or do the same with a film. Does everyone really live happily ever after or is there more to it?

Feb 2nd - Radio Play

Have a go at writing a play, either for the stage or the radio! Don’t fancy a play? Try a story set in a theatre instead? A great way to practise your dialogue.

Mar 2nd - Alternative Reality

Take an event in history & change it! Was a war lost instead of won? Did someone live instead of dying? What were the consequences?

April 6th - Newspaper Story

Write a story on an article you’ve found- try choosing one tucked away from the front page. Or have a go at journalism!

May 4th - Five Senses

We know what they are-but can you make your writing appeal to all of them? Give your writing flavour and scent; make it colourful, tactile and noisy!

June 1st - Century Stories

We’re well into 2010 now-the challenge is to set a story in 1910 or 1810-or how about 3010? The only limit is your imagination!

July 6th - Story from a Song

We’ve all got our favourite songs-can you make a story out of yours? Or is there a story behind your least favourite song?

Aug 3rd - Anti Travel Writing!

Can you tell us about a holiday where everything went wrong? Did you enjoy yourself anyway or was it a complete disaster?

Sep 7th - Story Based on a Picture

A great way to get ideas. Could there be a story waiting to be told behind a picture you see every day? Or are you inspired by a favourite artist?

Oct 5th - Things I Wish I Hadn’t Bought

Is it something that’s gathering dust, or ruinously expensive, or perhaps unlucky or magical? What would happen if you took it back?? Or have you become used to having it around?

Nov 2nd - Change Genre!

Let’s get out of our comfort zone! If we usually write horror, why not try a romance? Historians could try comedy. Or try poetry? Give it a go-you might find a hidden talent!

Dec 7th - Goal, Conflict, Disaster

Set your character a goal, then give them a conflict to resolve, then why not add a disaster just for good measure?.Do they rise to the challenge or give up? Only you can decide!
